Yoon-Jae finds himself involved in a sexual crime through his new job. Initially, his role seems innocent, but he becomes more involved until he delivers a drugged girl to a 'client' for paid sexual intercourse. I think it's a great idea to raise awareness about sexual crimes through the film, although it's not the main theme for me.
The main theme of the film is the unhealthy relationship between Yoon-Jae and Se-Joon. Se-Joon appears to be obsessed with Yoon-Jae. He tries to possess Yoon-Jae in various manipulative ways. He wants Yoon-Jae to need him. Yoon-Jae is bullied and beaten by others, but Se-Joon always portrays himself as the 'hero' who saves him, even though he caused trouble for Yoon-Jae in the first place. He gets jealous whenever he doesn't receive Yoon-Jae's attention or has to share him with others, especially with Eun-Young, because he thinks Yoon-Jae likes her. And eventually, his jealousy will lead to a point of no return.
Some scenes are left open for the audience to interpret. This is because the actors express a lot through their eyes instead of verbalizing their thoughts. I noticed that many foreign viewers think there is more than just friendship between Yoon-Jae and Se-Joon. I can see this because Se-Joon is obsessed with Yoon-Jae, and Yoon-Jae denies liking Eun-Young. I don't believe this is the case because I couldn't find anything in the director's references to support this.
The film leaves some questions unanswered at the end. Yoon-Jae feels guilty about his actions and is determined to make amends. However, in the end, we see him transferring to another high school. Has he never truly changed? And why?
It's a very interesting film to watch!
