MBC Music Festival (Hàn Quốc: MBC 가요 대제전) is an annual end-of-the-year music program in South Korea, broadcasted by the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC). The event was first organized in 1966 as a singing competition, but MBC stopped giving awards in 2005. Initially known as MBC Ten Singers Match (Hangul: MBC 10 대 가수 청백전),it was a competition among ten singers, with the winner being crowned the "King of Ten Singers." It was broadcasted live on MBC from the Seoul Civic Hall and televised starting from 1970.
In 1972, the Seoul Civic Hall caught fire after the conclusion of the Ten Singers Match by MBC. Approximately 1,500 people were still inside the venue when the fire broke out. Sadly, 53 people lost their lives in the fire, and some of the singers attending that night were injured.
In 2005, MBC stopped giving awards at this event after facing a boycott by several artists in 2004. The event was then renamed MBC Gayo Daejejeon in 2005.
